The School of Irish Archaeology
The School of Irish Archaeology visited our school and children had the opportunity to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking House. The children unearthed Viking treasures and artefacts dating back 1000 years. They learned about the lives of our Viking ancestors.
Thank you Michael
Best wishes to our caretaker Michael Brophy on his retirement. We thank him for his loyal service to Scoil Bhríde since early 1999. We wish him good health and happiness for many years to come. We hope he will drop in to say hello when things settle down. He will be sadly missed by our Board of Management, staff, families involved with our school, students past and present. Go neirí an bothar leis. Thank you Michael.

Birds
It is important that we look after the wide variety of birds that visit our school garden.
Bothar
A representative from Bóthar called to our school recently and explained to the children about the work this organisation does. They explained that Bóthar is an Irish International charity that provides the gift of livestock as a means of long-term development aid. It enables families and communities to overcome hunger and poverty in a sustainable way, specialising in improved livestock production and support-related training in the community. Students from Scoil Bhríde will engage in this project.
Alice and the Wolf
Students from Scoil Bhríde attended a pre-show session of Alice and the Wolf. The presenter used the poster image and model-box of the set to explore the children's expectations of the theater experience. Students attend the performance at the Watergate Theatre. This is an excellent show by Tom Swift where Alice spends virtually all her time in "Wolf World". You know, the world's deepest, darkest online game. Why not there was no one supervising. But what happens when the people you meet online come looking for you in real life? Who can you trust and who is the Big Bad Wolf? This re-telling of the Little Red Riding Hood story is a digital fairy tale that is deliciously funny and full of dangerously dark twists.
Science Week
Election Time at Scoil Bhríde
Students from 5th and Sixth classes held their own General Election this year. They formed four political parties and each team member presented their teams manifesto to the whole school. They touched on a wide variety of topics including climate change and the use of plastics in our society to mention but a few. All students in the school cast their vote at the ballot stations set up around the school.

Marine Environment presentation by students from Lisdowney NS, Scoil Bhride
9th Green Flag - Global Warming and the Marine Environment
There has been a great buzz around the school. We are delighted to say we have been selected as one of two of twenty schools selected for a pilot project on Global Warming. The children in 6th class visited the two local schools to spread the “Ripple Effect”. Ashleigh, Sofia and James visited Creenkill NS Gathabawn and Daniel, Ava and Andrew visited Scoil Naomh Fiachra to explain what our school are doing regarding Global Warming and the Marine Environment flag.
Scoil Bhríde N.S. Lisdowney gave their presentation in the Marine Hotel, Dublin on Global Warming and the Marine Environment on December 6th.
Scoil Bhríde N.S. Lisdowney has 8 green flags and we are working on our 9th flag this year. The theme of this flag is Global Warming and The Marine Environment. We were one of 20 schools in Ireland selected to give a presentation on this theme. We decided that we would call our project The Ripple Effect. We agreed that people might listen to children rather than adults if we explained how important it is to look after our planet. We wanted to make people realise that everything we do makes an impact on the planet and On November 10th four of us in 6th class went to Bru Bru in Cashel and gave our presentation on The Ripple Effect. We demonstrated that even though we live inland we can also influence what happens in the Marine Environment as all rivers lead to the sea.
Chloe from An Taisce came to speak with us earlier in the year and explained to us that 50% of the oxygen we breathe in is produced by plankton in the sea and also 50% of the CO2 on the planet is also absorbed by the same plankton. She showed us that plankton is just as important as our trees. We decided to get each child to complete a 2 minute clean up and map the area covered. We cleaned up from Lisdowney to Ballyragget, Kilkenny, Castlecomer and as far as Thurles. We also called to our two local schools Scoil Naomh Fiachra and Creenkill N.S. and asked them to complete the two minute clean up and let us know how they got on. We explained that if we pollute the land inland that eventually those pollutants will reach the sea and add to Global Warming. We called our project The Ripple Effect as we want everyone to spread the word and keep the ripple moving. So please spread the word.
